I am The Healthy Sweety xoxo Samantha

My name is Samantha. I'm first and foremost a woman, a daughter, a wife and most recently a mom to my 18 month old son Ken. In my 36 years of existence, more than 20 of those years, I have been on a diet! If they worked, would I have been on one for that long? Thinking about it now, the obvious answer is NO! Then why did I put myself through all the emotional and physical pain and torment to be on the diet rollercoaster for more than half my life?

I "If diets worked, would I have been on one for 20 years?"

Growing up in an Asian country in my teenage years, I felt that everyone around me was petite and there was a constant societal pressure to look a certain kind of skinny - which I was naturally NOT. Don't get me wrong, I was in no way overweight at the time - however society made me feel like I was - and I believed it. This was exacerbated by becoming part of the entertainment industry where the camera always seemed to add on 5 pounds without even doing anything, management pressuring me to lose a few more kilos and myself telling me that I needed to lose weight to look good and feel good about myself.

Dieting continued on all through my university years and early career - if there was a new diet, I would try it - skipping dinner, clean food delivery, detox juices, no carbs diet, I almost tried a banana diet - but even I thought that was too far. It was not only until I was around 30, where I had peaked in weight - having gained 15 kilos in 5 years - WHILE BEING ON DIET! - that I knew something was wrong. My mind and my body were telling me that something wasn't right. I decided to leave my career as an FMCG marketeer (my dream job up until that point) and go on a journey to reclaim my health.

As with most journey's there's usually no straight path - in reclaiming my health - I tried clean food deliveries, detox juices, smoothies, no carbs diet, you name it! But did any of them work? Not for very long. It wasn't only until I found balance - balance in the food I ate - mostly healthy food - that resembles the rainbow, found movement that I enjoyed as part of my everyday, made daily self-care and sleep a priority and try to be my most authentic self everyday, that I can finally say that I feel at peace with myself and feel that I am truly ENOUGH, just as I am.

It was through this journey, that I decided to further my education and become a Certified Health Coach with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, NYC in order to have a greater understanding and knowledge about health. Plus, it's a pleasure that I can also use my knowledge to inspire others and lead them on their OWN health journey as well.
